Disney has finally released the long awaited and rumored new streaming service Disney+. Some people are ecstatic about having all their favorite Disney films and TV shows in one place, while some are feeling that it is a little lack luster. For $7 a month, it rivals other streaming platforms such as Netflix and Hulu.
Films
Disney hit the ground running with a starting amount of 500 movies available to stream on launch day. These include a multitude of Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and even National Geographic films. All of the Disney classics are there like “Cinderella” and “Sleeping Beauty.” There are also all the new Disney era movies available to watch! Films like “Princess and the Frog” and “Moana” are there for your viewing pleasure. Being that we are nearing the holidays right now, there is already a Holiday genre section with all the Christmas movies you can imagine.
TV Shows
When it comes to TV Series available on Disney+, I am not disappointed. There are shows on Disney+ that I had forgotten about like “That’s So Raven.” There are less TV series being offered in comparison to the movie selection, but Disney makes up for it in its new hit Star Wars TV original, the Mandalorian.
The Interface
Much like Netflix and Hulu, the system for Disney+ is very easy to navigate. On the home screen, an icon will appear with Disney’s most sought after sub-companies. Classic Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. If you were to tap one of these icons, it’ll take you directly to those related movies or TV shows. The only issue I can think of having is, I found myself having to search and search for a particular show or movie. Something you may consider popular might not be “easy” to find.
I would recommend Disney+ to anyone I meet. I find myself going to Disney+ instead of Netflix now, and that’s coming from a Netflix super fan. Now, all we need is for Hulu, Netflix and Disney+ to make one giant, collaborative streaming service and then I’ll be happier than ever.
